Year 8 Art

Are your drawing completed for the tiles?

Would you like to see more of your work hung up around the school?  You can complete the circular drawings and we will frame these and hang on the wall.

Our oars should now be completed.  If not you need to use your lunch times to complete this.  We are now moving into making our tiles which we will complete with KK Marffy. These will be hung up at school on the wall like the others in the school.  Bring your ipads to each lesson.  You will not be given permission to retrieve it during class time.

Keep being creative over the holidays!  I will keep you posted as to what we are going to be up to next term!

Bring in any old magazines that are of interest to you, surfing, sports, womans day or the sky magazine.  A new activity for Monday.

You should have printed off your pictures and lettering that you would like to add to your oar.  This is your prep and to be completed before class.
We want to complete the oars in two lessons time max!

If you have complete your oar we will work on props for the Addams family.

The Addams Family Art Competition

There will be a prize for the winning Art piece.
It will be used for the publicity of our production
in the posters and programs.

Welcome back

It is going to be a busy term and I know that Art clashes with production and other items this term.  You are welcome to come in at lunchtime to work on these.  Our goals is to complete these by week 5.  It is up to you how much you will achieve during each lesson.  Focus, slow and steady will give you the results.

Happy Holidays boys!  Keep being creative.  You don't have to be on your ipad or PlayStation all holidays.  Get creating your artwork, draw, paint, build.

I look forward to seeing what you have made once you have returned after you break!

You should have printed off your pictures and lettering that you would like to add to your oar.  This is your prep and to be completed before class.

We have now had our last lesson in the workshop, all of our oars should be cut, shaped, filed and sanded.

Next lesson we will be putting a base coat on and starting to plan out our designs.  Your homework (not class time) is to print out the size letting and any pictures that you need so we can transfer this onto your oar to paint.  We have some carbon paper to trace if you need it.  We wont be using the computers or printing during class time.  You will need to do before class so we can make the most of our painting time.

Have your thought about your story that you are going to paint onto your oar?  Use your prep time to research ideas and print them before coming to class.  We will be in the workshop again on Monday and this is not a good environment for our devices.  More filing and sanding to be done.  I would like this to be our last lesson in the workshop so we can head over to the art room and start base coating our oars.

What a busy day we had today!

Everyone was focused to shape the base of their oar, file, sand and continue to plan their story on paper which will be transferred to the oars.  It was fantastic to see students being creative with bringing in their own gun stock, hockey stick and bat to complete their art story on.
We were very lucky to have Mr Beamish come in with an extra pair of hands to work with the boys to cut out the base of their oars.

This week we are going to continue to designing our oars onto paper and also starting to shape the base of the oar in the workshop.  We will be using the bandsaw and the scroll saws to cut these out.  Exciting next steps.

Year 8 Art visiting artist Leanne Culy
Local artist who paints on old oars.

Leanne will be coming into school to work with 8IS and 8MW on Monday 4th May.  Here is a link below to some of her work to start preparing.

We will design our oar paddle and handle shapes.  Then cut them from plywood in the workshop, file, sand and prep for painting.
